Star Community ⭐️

Showcase your repo, discover others', and earn karma by starring generously.

The Star Community is a discovery feed for GitShine members' projects. Showcase one repository with a one-line pitch, browse what other members are building, and star the projects you like — for real, on GitHub.

Stars are always a real click by a real member. GitShine never stars anything automatically — the feed exists to help genuine projects find genuine appreciation.

How it works

  1. Open the Community tab.
  2. Showcase a repo you own with a short pitch (one repo per member — you can swap it anytime).
  3. Browse the feed and hit Star on GitHub on projects you like. The star is placed with your own GitHub account and verified via the API.

Karma: givers rise

The feed is ranked by karma — the stars you've given, not the stars you've received. Star other members' projects and your own repo climbs the feed; never give and it settles at the bottom. Generosity is the algorithm.

A few ground rules keep it honest:

  • Karma only counts once GitHub confirms your star exists.
  • Quietly un-starring later costs the karma back (stars are re-verified periodically).
  • You can star up to 10 community repos per day.
  • You can't star your own showcased repo. Nice try. 😄
